For Los Arias, Flostar Group is much more than just an insurance brokerage. It’s a full circle connection to his 84-year-old father, Manuel F. Arias, and an opportunity to redefine healthcare in the workplace.

Manuel spent more than 35 years in the insurance industry building a nationwide employee benefits brokerage and hoped Los would take over the family business when the time came.

“But my heart wasn’t in it,” Los explains. “I wanted to explore my love of plant medicine at that point in my life.” Instead, Los entered the early days of regulated cannabis in Colorado in 2014 while finishing law school.

A turning point came when cannabis helped Manuel recover from a stroke, with the blessing of his attending physician at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. It opened Manuel’s eyes to the healing properties of plant medicine. “I developed an understanding of what Los chose to pursue from my own experience,” explains Manuel.

Upon Los becoming a pioneering entrepreneur in the cannabis sector, Manuel realized that cannabis medicine and traditional insurance were not only not mutually exclusive but were also on a collision course in the years to come.

Leveraging Manuel’s vast experience in insurance with Los’ network of business connections, they breathed new life into Flostar Group. For Los and Manuel, the business is a new frontier to explore together while they still have each other. Manuel serves as the company’s Chairman Emeritus, while Los serves as its CEO.
